There is no delay with the speed of light :-) This is why I got this optical microscope. The time delay between when I am moving my hands and when the movement is showing up on screen makes it difficult to do things like fine pitch electronics work. However, I find it very difficult to do do work while looking at a screen. Some of the smaller ones can also be used to look inside things, something that is not always possible with a large optical head liker this one. Put the picture on a large screen, and you can really see what is there. One note about USB microscopes compared to a real optical microscope like this one: USB microscopes (even the cheap $50 variety) are excellent for inspection work and for taking pictures. With this I am able to hand solder extremely small components and repair individual pins on large fine-pitch connectors, just to give one example.īut it has also turned out to be great for a lot of other repair work, like kids toys, wife's jewelry, watches, zippers, cell phones, cameras and other things that I would not have bothered to try to repair without this microscope ready on my workbench. It has been great for electronics work, which is what I bought it for in the first place.

Knowing what I know now, I would have been happy with this scope even at full price, and only regret I did not get one sooner.
Luckily for me, only the box had been damaged, the only damage I could see on the microscope was some scratched paint on the stand. Things you buy afterwards cost more, things in the package you did not need after all are a waste of money.ĭisclaimer: I did not pay full price for this microscope, I got a warehouse deal on one that had been dropped and got a 25% discount. The hard part is of course picking the right package. Note that most of the pieces can be bough separately, but you get a better price with a package deal. I will also be copying this review to some of the other versions of the same microscope, some of the other options may be better for people reading this.
